Shining a spotlight on Cheltenham's Theatres
This month we are highlighting some of the cultural attractions which can be found in our beautiful Festival Town of Cheltenham.

Starting with The Everyman Theatre
The Everyman Theatre can be found on Regent Street in Cheltenham’s town centre, just a four minute walk from Neptune Apartments. The Everyman is in a fantastic location between some great restaurants, marvellous coffee shops, and if you are coming to watch a matinee then do not forget the shopping.
Why should you go to The Everyman? Because it’s a beautiful venue, inclusive, accessible, and plays host to some great shows and acts. The theatre champions local talent, hosts national tours, and produces its own shows — including the much-loved annual pantomime. It also runs workshops, relaxed performances, and a community outreach programme, making sure the magic of theatre reaches every corner of the town.
What’s on now?
Here’s a taste of the current and upcoming plays and performances:
1. Just Between Ourselves (8–12 July): Alan Ayckbourn’s sharp suburban comedy.
2. An Audience with John Cleese (14–15 July): Yes, the one and only John Cleese — sharing stories and laughs from his legendary career.
3. Sense and Sensibility (23–26 July): A fresh take on Jane Austen’s classic, co-produced with Worcester Repertory Company.
Plan your visit to the Everyman Theatre
You can book tickets directly through the Everyman Theatre’s official website or by calling the box office on 01242 572573. It’s a good idea to book early for popular shows. E-tickets are available, and the theatre also offers concessions, group rates, and accessible seating options.
The Cheltenham Playhouse: Intimate, Independent, and unique.
Tucked away on Bath Road, the Cheltenham Playhouse is a community-run theatre with a big personality. Housed in a historic building that once served as a Victorian swimming baths, it now hosts a vibrant mix of drama, comedy, music, film, and fringe performances — all in an intimate, welcoming space that feels more like a gathering of friends than a formal night out.
Why Visit?
The Playhouse is a smaller more intimate theatre and is all about connections, between performers and audience, between local talent and national acts, and between Cheltenham’s past and its creative present. It’s a brilliant option for people who enjoy something a little off the beaten track: smaller-scale productions, passionate performances, and a real sense of community spirit.
